Gardening
is an activity that is more and more common nowadays in our society, but why do
more and more people prefer to make the effort and grow their own vegetables
and fruits than buying them in Wal-Mart or Kroger where we just have to pay for
it take them home and eat them. I think there are many reasons why someone will
prefer to have their own garden than eating the food from the big supermarkets.
First of
all, I think that there is big difference in the quality of the food we grow in
our garden from the food that we buy in the store. For example, if you ever
have picked a tomato from the plant yourself and washed and ate it, you know
what I’m talking about; the difference of that tomato with the tomato that you
can purchase at Wal-Mart is huge. The tomato that you directly pick from the
plant and eat may not have a perfect tomato form, but it is fresh, natural and
it taste like a tomato while the Tomato from Wal-Mart beside having a perfect
form may not have any real taste at all, in my opinion they look more like fake
tomatoes than real.
The second
reason that I think is making more and more people grow their own vegetables is
that they are probably much healthier than the vegetables that we purchase at
the market. Nowadays we don’t even know how many different products, which many
of them are toxic, that these vegetables have been exposed to until they get to
the market where we can purchase them, and even many of them have been
genetically modified. Thus more people may trust their own food that they have
grown.
Other
reasons that I think is making more people have their own garden are: gardening
is a nice hobby to do on our leisure time, it takes time and work, but at the
end is satisfactory; it make us stay in contact with nature; is peaceful, relaxing and make us disconnect
from our daily tasks.
These are
some reason why I think that nowadays more and more people are starting to have
a garden, if you think that there are other reasons why more people are
starting to garden you can leave a comment and contribute to my post. I think
that gardening is a nice hobby with many benefits, it helps us to stay in
contact with the nature and it remind us that the food does not come from Wal-Mart
or Kroger.
